The Smart Power, Inc’s CEO, Simon Wilby, invented a solar-powered lithium battery specially designed for that ubiquitous feature of modern life: the cell phone.

When he couldn’t take any more of the endless aggravation brought on by his cell phone battery dying on him right in the middle of important conversations, Simon Wilby took action. He figured that creating a new battery powered by the sun — a limitless source of energy – is the first thing he needed to do. With pen and paper in hand, he designed a new battery that can make his life easier, and possibly, the lives of the billions of cell phone users all over the world. His new battery will be retrofitted into the cell phones already in use around the world. The solar panels will be integrated into the new battery cover that will come with his new battery. He had his design prototyped in China and the final product became “The Smart one.”

Simon Wilby and his company, The Smart Power, Inc., launched The Smart One in February this year. It is set to conquer the world of mobile communications technology. Obsolescence is the fate The Smart One has in store for wall socket chargers; freedom from their dependence on said wall socket chargers is what it offers the everyday cell phone user.

Simon Wilby, is the CEO of The Smart Power, Inc., a Barbados-based company that offers practical solutions to many of today’s technological problems. A U.K.-born Canadian, Simon Wilby started inventing things when he moved from the U.K. to Canada in 1991. In Canada, he quickly made a name for himself as an inventor and an entrepreneur

What set everything into motion for Simon Wilby seemed rather simple. Being a pet-lover and having five dogs to keep track of, he was inspired to invent a device which would enable him to constantly maintain contact with his beloved pets. This device is a two-way voice collar communication system which useful to him personally, as well as the man dog-owners who might find themselves in the same predicament.

Next on the list of Simon Wilby’s inventions is a solar-powered lithium battery for cell phones. Exasperated by the frequency with which his cell phone was dying on him right in the middle of an important call, he thought of solar-powered batteries as a solution. This battery called “The Smart One” is being manufactured and marketed by The Smart Power, Inc. to help people like him who are frequently on the go and who conduct their businesses via phones. Finally — though not the last of his inventions — are solar-powered batteries for laptops, “The Smart Juice.”

The Smart Power, Inc. is a Barbados-based company that uses “clean technology” in manufacturing consumer products. Clean technology has become a buzz phrase in the wake of the recent global oil crisis which drove home the ominous message that the energy that fuels industries, and which practically makes the world go round, is not inexhaustible. On the other hand, solar energy is limitless, and as yet, underutilized. This is something Simon Wilby, CEO of The Smart Power, Inc., knows and intends to make full use of.

Simon Wilby is a U.K.-born, Canadian entrepreneur-cum-inventor. Frustration prodded him to create an alternative battery for cell phones which is solar-based, lasts longer and can charge with practically any source of light, at all. This eventually became “The Smart One” — which is the lithium-based, solar-powered battery that comes with a 20-second retrofit kit now being offered by The Smart Power, Inc. on the market. Ever the innovator, Simon Wilby extended this idea into the realm of laptops, which he calls “The Smart Juice.”

These are only two of Simon Wilby’s inventions. Indeed, the consumer products on the menu of The Smart Power, Inc. are smart, and as they mostly harness the power of the sun, clean.

According to Simon Wilby, he finds Barbados to be such a wonderful country filled with natives who never ceases to amaze him; with its people being so friendly and welcoming to visitors. Simon Wilby’s main consideration, however, is the country’s climate. The island is a place where the sun never seems to stop shinning.

This is the reason why, Simon Wilby who happens to be the CEO of “The Smart Power” as well as being the creator of “The Smart One” chose the sunny Bridgetown, Barbados as the site of the international head office of his corporation.

It is a fact worth acknowledging that the island is the perfect place to establish a company whose principle product is a battery that has the ability to harness solar power which can be used with portable appliances, gizmos and gadgets such as cell phones.

True enough, solar technology is extremely much more superior and efficient compared to electronic technology. Since it is deemed as a type of Green Energy, it is much safer for the environment.

This technology by Simon Wilby enables cell phone users to get rid of their conventional batteries and the way they use to charge by means of using electricity. With “The Smart One” device, all you have to do is expose your mobile phone to any light and it will automatically charge up. This has been proven with the successful launch of “The Smart One” in Barbados last December 2008. Simon Wilby definitely struck gold with this one.

Simon Wilby is not only a genius but an animal lover as well. He adopted a dog and named him Levi who happens to be an 11 year-old black lab scheduled for euthanasia due to old age and high vet bills.

Even though Levi came with a lot of expensive hospital bills due to his many ailments, Simon Wilby never thought twice spending on his adopted dog.

He created an organization that helps pet owners who have high vet bills to pay for their beloved pet. Simon Wilby started “The Second Chance Foundation”.

Simon Wilby was quoted as saying: “Nine out of ten times when someone cannot afford astronomical fees, the vet will suggest to the owner that their pet be put to sleep. There are no payment plans for vet services; it’s almost like holding the pet for ransom if its owner cannot pay. The Second Chance will be sending money directly to the vet so the pet will get whatever help it needs when it is sick or injured. I just love animals and want to be able to give back to them for all they have done for me.

Simon Wilby finally took his pet Levi home and got along well with his other pets namely - Rigs, Emmy, George, and Abbie which happens to be all dogs and Cinder and Bear are the cats. Levi is likely to have a full recovery someday. Simon Wilby is fine with that. He just wants to enjoy his lab more than anything else in the world.
