The Smart One is a useful product that attaches to a cellular phone and lets it charge using solar power although practically any light source ensures your mobile phone is always powered up.
The brainchild of Canadian inventor Simon Wilby, The Smart One works discreetly with your phone. You don’t have to worry about lugging around one gadget to power another.
Next up for Simon Wilby is to adapt the technology used in The Smart One for other portable gadgets. Laptops, music players, and basically any handheld device might soon be freed from power cords and downtime. Eventually, the technology might even find applications to power streetlamps and reduce our dependence on traditional power sources like fossil fuels and nuclear energy.
It’s a brave new world and Simon Wilby is The Smart One with the right ideas to take us there.
The Smart Power, Inc. is a Barbados-based company that uses “clean technology” in manufacturing consumer products. Clean technology has become a buzz phrase in the wake of the recent global oil crisis which drove home the ominous message that the energy that fuels industries, and which practically makes the world go round, is not inexhaustible. On the other hand, solar energy is limitless, and as yet, underutilized. This is something Simon Wilby, CEO of The Smart Power, Inc., knows and intends to make full use of.
Simon Wilby is a U.K.-born, Canadian entrepreneur-cum-inventor. Frustration prodded him to create an alternative battery for cell phones which is solar-based, lasts longer and can charge with practically any source of light, at all. This eventually became “The Smart One” — which is the lithium-based, solar-powered battery that comes with a 20-second retrofit kit now being offered by The Smart Power, Inc. on the market. Ever the innovator, Simon Wilby extended this idea into the realm of laptops, which he calls “The Smart Juice.”
These are only two of Simon Wilby’s inventions. Indeed, the consumer products on the menu of The Smart Power, Inc. are smart, and as they mostly harness the power of the sun, clean.

According to Simon Wilby, he finds Barbados to be such a wonderful country filled with natives who never ceases to amaze him; with its people being so friendly and welcoming to visitors. Simon Wilby’s main consideration, however, is the country’s climate. The island is a place where the sun never seems to stop shinning.
This is the reason why, Simon Wilby who happens to be the CEO of “The Smart Power” as well as being the creator of “The Smart One” chose the sunny Bridgetown, Barbados as the site of the international head office of his corporation.
It is a fact worth acknowledging that the island is the perfect place to establish a company whose principle product is a battery that has the ability to harness solar power which can be used with portable appliances, gizmos and gadgets such as cell phones.
True enough, solar technology is extremely much more superior and efficient compared to electronic technology. Since it is deemed as a type of Green Energy, it is much safer for the environment.
This technology by Simon Wilby enables cell phone users to get rid of their conventional batteries and the way they use to charge by means of using electricity. With “The Smart One” device, all you have to do is expose your mobile phone to any light and it will automatically charge up. This has been proven with the successful launch of “The Smart One” in Barbados last December 2008. Simon Wilby definitely struck gold with this one.
(Detroit, Michigan USA) — The creation of British-Canadian born inventor Simon Wilby takes just under a minute to make your mobile phone solar powered thanks to the very ingenious device known as “The Smart One”.
Simon Wilby’s device, “The Smart One” is an aftermarket product that people can easily and quickly install with the use of a kit to any type of cell phone that they might have or use. Once the device is installed, people can be assured of nonstop power for their cellular phone. This amazing gadget may seem too good to be true but it is. The reason for this is because “The Smart One” is so competent at stocking up energy that it will surely work; whether someone is outdoors, finding himself standing outside at high noon on a hot sunny day or simply indoors in the midst of an ambient light.
Simon Wilby’s cutting-edge invention makes use of high-tech plastic solar cells in order to power a Lithium exon battery. This state-of-the-art technology massively improves battery performance. In reality, a completely charged mobile phone with the use of “The Smart One” will supply three (3x) times more talk time compared with the cellular phone that uses a standard conventional battery.
With all these facts presented, wouldn’t you want to try for yourself “The Smart One”; after all, it just takes under a minute to install.

Simon Wilby is not only a genius but an animal lover as well. He adopted a dog and named him Levi who happens to be an 11 year-old black lab scheduled for euthanasia due to old age and high vet bills.
Even though Levi came with a lot of expensive hospital bills due to his many ailments, Simon Wilby never thought twice spending on his adopted dog.
He created an organization that helps pet owners who have high vet bills to pay for their beloved pet. Simon Wilby started “The Second Chance Foundation”.
Simon Wilby was quoted as saying: “Nine out of ten times when someone cannot afford astronomical fees, the vet will suggest to the owner that their pet be put to sleep. There are no payment plans for vet services; it’s almost like holding the pet for ransom if its owner cannot pay. The Second Chance will be sending money directly to the vet so the pet will get whatever help it needs when it is sick or injured. I just love animals and want to be able to give back to them for all they have done for me.
Simon Wilby finally took his pet Levi home and got along well with his other pets namely - Rigs, Emmy, George, and Abbie which happens to be all dogs and Cinder and Bear are the cats. Levi is likely to have a full recovery someday. Simon Wilby is fine with that. He just wants to enjoy his lab more than anything else in the world.

“The Smart Power” Simon Wilby has been victorious in his attempt to reinvent possibly the most popular and highly visible gadget in the market – the cellular phone.
With the major support that Simon Wilby was getting from his company, The Smart Power Incorporated, he was able to design a device specifically geared towards mobile phone batteries being charged using solar energy. The technology that Simon Wilby created is called “The Smart One” which is a first of its kind. It allowed the cell phone to be charged using only solar power coming from any source of light such as the sun.
All you need to do is attach the device at the back side of your mobile phone. One of the best things about this product is that it is compatible to all cell phones models found in the market. Simon Wilby also included in the package a battery that receives the charge.
Simon Wilby’s selling point during the official launch of “The Smart One” in the island of Barbados, is that his invention provides cell phones the capacity to incur fourteen (14) hours of talk time compared to the four (4) hours that regular batteries supplies. That is definitely a feat that is hard to beat.
From the brilliant mind of British-Canadian inventor Simon Wilby comes The Smart One, a gadget that could leave your mobile phone’s charger in the dust bin. Wilby’s invention uses cutting edge technology to use an ancient power source – the Sun.
Unlike conventional batteries that use silicon cells, The Smart One uses plastic cells that retain full circuitry for faster and more efficient charging. It’s so efficient at storing power that it will continue to charge even if partially covered under ambient light.
Simon Wilby demonstrated the potential of The Smart One at its launch in Barbados in December of 2008 when he took out his own mobile phone which had not been charged conventionally since March.
Pretty soon, consumers from around the world will be able to travel with their assorted gadgets like laptops, game consoles and whatnot sans charger, predicts Simon Wilby. We like that…a lot.
Simon Wilby, inventor of The Smart One, a device which effectively turns regular cell phones into solar powered devices, has lined up several new applications of the same ingenious technology behind The Smart One with more and more applications on the horizon.
Simon Wilby is constantly on the look out for new and exciting applications for the ultra thin, plastic solar cells that made The Smart One possible. He has already adapted the technology to be used for laptops, eliminating the chronic dependence laptop users have on chargers and wall sockets.
Not all of Simon Wilby’s solar panel applications are for home use though. Plans are already in the works to devise a system of street lights that work using solar power. This brave innovation could potentially save governments millions in electric bills annually. Who knows? Traffic lights might be the next thing to get the green light for “green energy.”

Simon Wilby has outdone himself with the invention of The Smart One. It’s a device that destroys the myth that solar power may be environmentally safe but impractical for use in the real world.
Basically, The Smart One can be retrofitted to your cellular phone to make it solar powered. It does not have any unsightly wires or create an obstruction when in use. It actually boosts battery performance. Best of all, it keeps charging even when under an overcast sky or indoors with whatever light is available.
Imagine this technology applied to other portable gadgets. Why stop there? Imagine how much we’d save if our street lights could use stored solar energy to light the way at night. The future is looking a lot greener these days because of Simon Wilby and The Smart One.
Simon Wilby is already hard at work developing other applications for this technology.
